当诸多同门齐心凝练桐城文章及其文章批评的特质,合力宣扬桐城文人尤其是乃师的不世造诣之时,郭麐对这些扬旌树帜之举却不无淡漠,甚至唱起了反调。当然,他也并未倒向对立的骈文阵营。由此,其文章学的成就也无可避免地受到双方有意或无意的遮蔽乃至贬抑。但对今人而言,发掘并揭示像郭麐那样散布于门户之外的文人群体及其文章学的意涵,倾听那些在历史时空中沦落已久的低音,进而为之做出恰如其分的定位,不但是全面梳理桐城文法理论与文章创作演变的应有之义,也是深度还原清代中后期文坛复杂面相的必要前提。
